I was inspired to create this little Brittany Spaniel after moving to Bretagne, France. We attended a local specialty dog show for this breed and it was a thoroughly enjoyable day, seeing all the spaniels in their natural environment, covering the terrain, hunting and then being exhibited and judged for their conformation and movement.
The sculpture stands on a driftwood plinth that is 20cms long. The spaniel stands on top of the plinth and the total height is just over 13cms. I made her from a variety of wools and wool batting, blending the colours to giver an authentic coat. Her longer, top hairs are extra fine merino, her eyes are plastic and her nose is clay.
She took many hours of concentrated work with a single felting needle and I thoroughly enjoyed creating her – I hope you enjoy looking at my pretty Epagneul Breton.
